If the Public Advocate is appointed by the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT) to be someone’s guardian, that person becomes OPA’s client.
The Public Advocate and the delegated guardians advocate for OPA’s clients.
This means promoting and protecting their human rights, including access to services, freedom and choice, where this is possible.
Advocacy can also mean taking steps to protect someone from discrimination, abuse, or neglect.
Advocacy does not mean taking over a client’s life or problems.
