There are three pieces of legislation on which the OPA has a particular advisory role- the Guardianship and Administration Act 1993, the Mental Health Act 2009 and the Consent to Medical Treatment and Palliative Care Act 1995.
This office provides one to one information and advice through its Information Service and also conducts education sessions for groups (usually of 20 or more people). OPA staff will also participate in relevant forums such as conferences and workshops. Key topics include
- planning for the future (advance directives)
- the role of the OPA, the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the application of the Guardianship and Administration Act
- ethical and practical aspects of guardianship and substitute decision making
If you wish to request an education session please complete the Education Request Form.
